Varanasi is known for its Ghats, spiritual and religious relevance and ancient monuments specially temples. Hindu devout from all across the country visit this pious city in search of spirituality and serenity. I had a desire to visit Varanasi from long and finally I got the opportunity for the same as I had to visit some of the health clinics in the city as part of my profession. I was quite excited and hence made my hotel and travel reservations around 30 days in advance so as to avoid any last minute hassle.

I had travelled a couple of times to various other destinations across India via this eminent budget air carrier and hence booked the IndiGo Airline flight number 176 which departed the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport of Mumbai at 1.35 pm and reached the Varanasi Airport at 5.40 pm.

The state of the art entertainment system offered on the IndiGo flight kept me engrossed all through the journey.  There were a host of music channels and Indian as well as Hollywood movies to choose from. The recliner seats were quite comfortable and hence I reached the Varanasi Airport afresh where the airport shuttle offered by my hotel was already waiting for me.

I booked the three star hotel located in Hathwa Palace Chetganj in Varanasi. The location of the Pallavi International Hotel is in the heart of the city and hence all the major health clinics and tourist attractions are easily accessible from the hotel via public transport. The Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport is at a distance of merely 23 kilometres and the Varanasi Railway Junction is around 3 kilometres from this hotel. I was quite satisfied by the hotel amenities which include air conditioned and well – furnished rooms, LCD Television, safe, complimentary newspaper, hangers, wardrobe, in – room menu, round the clock room service, laundry service, private bathroom, study table etc. Free wireless internet connection is also available in the hotel premises. I used the help desk to enquire about the popular places of interest in the city and headed to explore Varanasi.

Places of interest

Varanasi is truly a city of temples. There are innumerable ancient as well as contemporary temples strewn all across the city. The holy Ganges attracts devotees as well as tourists from all parts of the world. I enjoyed my time sitting at the historic Dashashwamedh Ghat on the banks of the Ganges. I also visited the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple which is an ancient Hindu edifice. I also had a peaceful time at the famed Assi Ghat. I am quite interested in history and hence I visited the Ramnagar Fort in Varanasi. The architecture of the fort was majestic.
